Basement Waterproofing
This very well may be one of the most important services that we provide. If you have a basement that you can literally count on to stay dry you are going to be pretty well off. Especially when it comes to avoiding a lot of the potential issues that could come from all of the backlash that you can get from having a wet basement. We are going to go over some of the best ways to ensure that your basement is waterproofed as well as some of the scenarios that could come to pass if it isn’t!
Why Does Water Get Into My Basement?
Basically, the problem is that the soil that surrounds your home is not going to be as compact as virgin soil would be because it was excavated out in the building process. That means that rainwater or any type of water that could end up in that soil that could come from leaks in your pipes is more likely to end up in your basement than it would in other areas of your home. This area is located below ground level and therefore completely surrounded by soil. If we get a heavy rain season you may want to give us a call sooner rather than later!
What To Do About It
We have talked about this in other areas of the site one the first things that we are going to have to check is your own drainage system. A lot of times most of your pipes will have an output right in your basement. If they start having problems especially when it gets to the point when you are having backflow your own pipes could flood the basement. We need to make sure that the water that is flowing through your home is accounted for. Then we need to make sure that exterior water can flow through a proper french drain in the basement.
Vapor Barriers
These are sheets that cover the walls of your basement or crawl space and their main function is to make sure that moisture does not flow freely through your basement. Even water vapor that leaks into your basement can potentially cause a lot of problems. A vapor barrier is one of the most extreme measures that we can take to make sure that you won’t be having any type of water issues with your basement any time soon!
Sealing Cracks In Walls
A lot of the times when you already had a water leak issue within your basement some of the walls in the place are bound to have broken or cracked. What we want to do is make sure that water that may be present in the soil around the basement cannot find a lane to flow through. The best way to do that is to make sure that we can completely seal off the basement to a point where it almost becomes a bunker. This is the final step in fully waterproofing a basement.
